The everyday wife
Lover, you hold me
in the palm of your hand,I lie in your pocket.
I am small change.
You spend me without thinking.
You will always have me.
You do not have to save me.
I am like
an everyday wife.
If we get committed we’ll probably go insane,
sweet nothings will become bitterly inane,
bond becomes mortgage, lead-lined shoes
vows repeated solemnly, death by noose.
I think we should rather
stay loose.
The everyday wife - poem by Phillippa Yaa de Villiers

山の女 - The Mountain Woman
Since 2004, Sanae has been living in Fish Hoek, Cape Town.
Everyday, rain or shine, she swims in the Ocean where The Mountain Woman was born.
The Mountain Woman is a series of works lovingly caressed out of the topography of Kaap Stad, deeply sensual paintings that reflect the resilience, timeless age and beauty of the Peninsula within the body of feminine wisdom.
The quirkily seductive figures celebrate daily miracles within the everyday landscapes.
The Mountain Woman will be accompanied by smiley Cape Dutch Houses – ceramic artworks, fresh out of kiln.
Sawada says about the character:”We all come from woman – mother links us to eternity - an ever first time / first time ever experience. Welcome home.”

A happy bonny bunny ear
wishing you all bottomless
spiritual affluence.

There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable it is nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive. (Martha Graham in a letter to a student)
